It is
often said that everybody has a
book in them and that might be
true; however, turning a passion
for drawing and painting the
British countryside into
published pages can be a
daunting task; the difficult
part is actually seeing the idea
through to
the end.
The
seeds of such an adventure for
my drawings were planted with my
first impression of The Lake
District, as a schoolboy,
on a school visit to Grasmere
and Rydal Water. I did not fully
realise, at the time, how The
Lakes environment would
influence me; however, I knew it
was a paradise for anyone
wishing to draw. It is not often
you return to the scene of
schooldays so enthusiastically
to pursue a passion!
In
1997, I set about compiling a
collection of Lakeland drawings,
and finally the day arrived when
my first book, 'Lakeland
Penscapes' was published.
Happily, this book received
favourable reviews, culminating
in recognition by the Cumbria
Tourist Board as Highly
Commended, Border TV Prize,
'Lakeland Book of the Year
Awards 1999'.
Following the ongoing interest
and enjoyment expressed by many
readers and purchasers of
Lakeland Penscapes, my second
book, 'Capturing The Cotswolds'
was published.

'This book is not a guide to the
familiar best walks or car
drives, it is a collection of
sketches which epitomise the
areas of interest for me within
parts of the National Park,
which bring back memories and
have recharged my batteries,
during holidays in these
outstanding areas.
I
hope fellow enthusiasts
will enjoy the stimulation to
their own memories from
recognising the illustrations in
this, my book of Lakeland
Penscapes.' |

'Following in the line
of great pen and ink

Wainwright, it seems
fitting that Richard

AW's final resting
place, Haystacks, along

Wanscale Bottom, Great
Gable and High Crag.'

of The Lakes. Richard
Coyle has also felt the

accomplished drawings
portray a talent for
line and shadow. '

'The
Artist's style is simple
but incredibly striking
and captures many
different aspects of
Lakeland Life from the
Craggy towering peaks
and deep glistening
waters to the tiny stone
cottages and isolated
farmhouses.'

nothing which could be
construed as obvious or
hackneyed. Many of his

the unexpected.'
